The shortlist can form before the visit
A buyer can now ask for a category explanation, supplier criteria, a comparison, and a preliminary shortlist in one session. That does not eliminate websites or sales conversations. It changes the context in which they begin: the buyer may arrive with an answer system’s framing already in mind.
Specificity becomes a commercial asset
Generic claims are difficult to distinguish and difficult to support. Clear descriptions of applications, constraints, standards, methods, and evidence give both buyers and retrieval systems something useful to work with.
Third-party context matters
Answer systems can draw from publishers, marketplaces, forums, documentation, and reviews—not only a company’s site. B2B visibility therefore depends on an honest source strategy: accurate owned information, consistent profiles, expert contributions, and coverage worth earning.
The website still has a decisive job
Once a buyer arrives, the site must confirm the category, prove fit, reduce risk, and make the next step clear. AI visibility without a credible destination merely accelerates disappointment.
AI Search changes quickly. We distinguish established search guidance from emerging hypotheses and do not treat a model response as proof of a durable outcome.
